A carafe coffee maker can also be called a thermal coffee maker because of how they work. If you have been drinking coffee for a long time, then you are probably all too familiar with how coffee can taste after being left in the pot for a few hours. Traditional style coffee makers drip the liquid down and then keep it warm via a hot plate under the coffee pot. This style is fine if you are planning to drink it all in a short period of time, but if you leave it for two or three hours the heat generated by the hot plate under the pot will burn the coffee and make it taste awful.
You can find some coffee machines out there that do not make your coffee taste burned after only an hour or two. If you’re looking for one who does this, then you are on the market for a carafe coffee maker. The way these coffee makers work is special in that instead of heat from the bottom, the coffee is dripped into a special carafe that creates a vacuum around the coffee to keep it fresh and warm. The vacuum that is created helps the coffee maintain its natural taste, and though it will cool down after a few hours, it will never have that awful taste in a few hours that traditional coffee making yields.
There are the standard models, which drip into the carafe and you can let sit, and there are those which drip directly into travel mugs if you are often on the go. The majority of models are the type that pump your coffee right into a travel mug as they are indeed thermally insulated. This is not of much use if you mainly drink your coffee at home, which is why there are some that just drip into a special carafe for your convenience. If you are a stay at home parent or work from home, these are ideal because it’s easy to lose track of time and even forget about the coffee if you get busy.
Even if you only brew one cup at a time, pour it almost immediately and don’t experience “coffee burning,” a carafe coffee maker will still affect your coffee drinking experience. The taste is slightly different if dripped directly into a thermal carafe, and if you’re a sort of coffee connoisseur that is a big deal. Overall the coffee does taste a good deal fresher, even if it has been sitting for more than an hour.
In any coffee maker, the way it is brewed will greatly affect the taste of the finished product. Most people who have been avid coffee drinkers for decades know the taste difference between a good and a bad up of coffee, and a carafe coffee maker always provides great cups of coffee. The taste that comes from these coffee makers is unique, as with any other style of coffee maker. Why settle for sub-par coffee when there is a better alternative?
Like to make a whole pot of coffee at a time? Usually doing that can result in wasted coffee, but with a carafe coffee maker your coffee will always be delicious no longer how long it sits.
